The news outlet reports that the move follows questions by the Rev Joanna Stobart, vicar of Ilminster and Whitelackington in Somerset at the synod.
Man of God wants a “a more inclusive language” which God is called in the Church of England service to reflect the creation in a “non-gender way”.
A spokesman for the Church of England told Sky News that there had been a greater interest in exploring new languages in the last 20 years.
But he added that there are no plans “Remove or substantially alter the current legal liturgy”.
“Christians have known since time immemorial that God is neither male nor female, but the various ways of speaking and describing God found in the Bible are not always reflected in our worship.
“As part of its regular work program over the next five years, the Liturgy Commission has asked the faith and order commission to work on these questions.
“No change is possible without extensive legislation,” the spokesman said, as quoted by sky news.
One person who likes to see God in gender-neutral terms is the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby who has said since 2008 that. “God is not male or female. God does not sleep.”
The Rev Dr Michael Ipgrave, Bishop of Lichfield and vice-chairman of the Liturgy Commission, which prepared the form for the service, said the project would begin this spring.
The Liturgy Commission and another Church of England body, the Faith and Order Commission which advises on theology will work together on the project over the next five years, a report said.
The project has sparked a backlash with many saying it is unnecessary.
