The Christian Organization of South Africa (Cosa) has suggested that former City of Tshwane mayor Dr Murunwa Makwarela has been “possessed by the devil” amid an insolvency scandal.
Makwarela has come under fire after it emerged on Friday that he was accused of using fake certificates to reverse his position as mayor of the metropolitan municipality.
The former Tshwane council chairman has since resigned.
‘Unconfessed sin’
Reacting to the saga, Cosa president Derrick Mosoana said the organization was “convinced” that Makwarela was “possessed by demons for lack of a better word”.
“[The] The Cosa leadership was shocked to learn that the mayor of the service one day, in defense of an unacknowledged sin, filed a ‘Mumbai’ court order, which was later rejected by the court,” Mosoana said in a statement.
Mosoana lamented the impact of Makwarela’s resignation on service delivery in Tshwane, further criticizing various political parties for electing him as mayor.
“Only the people of Tshwane are the last recipients of this [scandal] training by political parties in the council.

“Now road friend The technique by the ANC, DA, ActionSA and EFF is nothing but a desperate attempt by all political cronies to elect their friends. [municipal councils]. It has nothing to do with the government, the people of Tshwane and the functioning of the metro,” he said.
“Everyone wants to vote for their friends [top] position so that they can continue to loot even beyond 2024. Dosa Makwarela saw an opportunity when sodomy between DA, EFF and ActionSA hit the fans. All of them have launched a campaign of repentant ex-boyfriends to return to the seat of power, but to no avail with the proposal again.
“Tshwane must be dissolved and give way to a Christ-centered government. Let’s clean this out drink [drunken] face demagogues masquerading as leaders. Cosa prayed for repentance from Makwarela, and confessed where in Marabastad he got this verdict.
Letter of resignation
In his resignation letter, Makwarela said he had “instructed his lawyers” to deal with the matter.
“In order to protect the image of the office I hold and the good name of the City, I have decided to resign from the position of mayor in the City of Tshwane.
“This is not a form or an admission of guilt in public allegations, but the desire for the City to focus on service delivery and other critical business,” Makwarela said on Friday afternoon.
