Christians Charged To Fall On The Bible For Hope In Difficult Times | Religion

Former Secretary General of the Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC), Pdt. Dr. Setri Nyomi, urged Christians to accept the Bible as a source of hope when the country faces challenging times.
He said that the Bible, which is the embodiment of the word of God, was created to strengthen the believers through turmoil and thus give clear directions on how to ease the difficult times.

“This is what gives us hope and what is important for the life of the nation if we are going to walk and survive in this difficult time when the situation and changes make us despair,” he said.

Pdt. Nyomi said this, yesterday, while speaking on the theme: “The Immutable Word of God: Hope for All”, at the Bible Week Symposium organized by the Bible Society of Ghana (BSG).

Words Don’t Change

Pdt. Nyomi, who is the District Pastor of Bethel Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Ghana, told the Bible stories about how some nations deal with problems like oppression and war that are still relevant today.

He explained that the real stories of the Bible in the lives of all those people show that the word of God remains unchanged and make Christians a beacon of hope that the nation will embrace.

“These are not ancient words that are true for some people in ancient times and we continue to use them in a way that is called faith; it is what we have experienced in our own lives so that we can talk about it,” he said.

Church and Crisis

Head of Department of Psychology, University of Ghana Department of Psychology, Rev. Prof. Joseph Osafo Adu, said that it is high time that the presence of the Church can be felt on national issues and help mitigate the national crisis.

“The Church will not remain in the church, it is time for us to bring the Bible to the people, to the market so that the presence of the Church and God will be felt,”

Pdt. Adu, who is also the Minister of East Legon Worship Center of the Church of Pentecost, told Christians to be a living covenant from the hope given in the Bible.

Chairman’s response

Retired Judge of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Professor Akua Kuenyehia, who presided over the event, said the theme was very important because of the changes in the world.

He said because of all the hardships they are facing these days, many people have lost hope and are living in despair.

“His words will enable us to overcome the problems of the world, and everyone can use these words to guide themselves in accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior,” he said.
