After suffering a heart attack at Euro 2020, the 29-year-old Danish midfielder has returned to Premier League football.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan player came off the bench for Brentford in the 52nd minute against Newcastle during their Premier League match.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t the best of results as they lost 2-0 at the Brentford Community Stadium.

This comes after Eriksen suffered a heart attack during Euro 2020. Brentford’s medical team gave him the green light when he passed all the necessary medical tests after he was fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD).

Christian Eriksen joined Brentford in January this year after leaving Inter by mutual agreement.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank said: “Kristen is in a good place. Now it’s just a matter of getting into the rhythm of the game and getting consistency in everything.

“We need a few games for him to be at his best, but I wouldn’t have put him in if I didn’t think he could give something now.

“We are taking an unbelievable opportunity to bring a world-class player to Brentford.”

Speaking to Danish media earlier this month, Eriksen said:

“My goal is to play in the World Cup in Qatar. I want to play. That’s how I think. It’s a goal, a dream.

“Physically, I came back well. I want to prove that I have progressed and can play again in the national team.”

The World Cup kicks off in November, with temperatures expected to reach 30C during the tournament in Qatar.
