Christian Atsu’s body arrives in Accra
The remains of Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu arrived in his home country on Sunday, February 19, 2023, around 19:30 WIB.
Atsu’s body was flown back to Ghana on a Turkish Airways flight, accompanied by his twin sister and Ghana’s Ambassador to Turkey, Francisca Ashietey-Odunton.
On arrival at Kotoka International Airport, Atsu’s family, government officials, officials from the Ghana Football Association, and fans gathered to receive the remains.
The emotions of those present were palpable, and tears flowed freely as they mourned the loss of such a talented footballer.

Atsu, who is only 31 years old, has had a successful international and local career. He played for several clubs including FC Porto, Vitesse, Everton, Newcastle United, and most recently Hatayspor in Turkey.
His sudden and tragic death has sent shock waves through the football community in Ghana and beyond, with many offering condolences and sharing memories of the player.
Atsu was confirmed dead on Friday after being trapped in the rubble for 12 days following the earthquake in Turkey.
