Atsu, who currently plays for Turkish club Hatayspor, was trapped in the rubble along with the club’s sporting director Taner Savut.

However, after hours of searching for the duo, it was confirmed on Tuesday morning that the Ghanaian was finally found alive and is being treated in hospital.

A visit to the footballer’s family home in Accra by sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah revealed his joy on receiving the news of his rescue.

In a video shared on YouTube, the Peace FM sports chief spoke to Atsu’s senior brother and other family members, who were captured singing praises to God for saving their brother.

Senior brother of footballer Isaac Yeye Twasam said: “The whole nation supports us in prayer so I know that God will send my brother. Even after hearing the news, we want confirmation from the club. So I called the agent and kept in touch.”

Atsu’s aunt, Mama Comfort, also added: “We haven’t been able to sleep, I’ve been praying. Everyone has called from friends to church members. His brother told me it was dawn to see him. I want to thank the people of Ghana for their love and support. They are more than family.”

Meanwhile, Atsu is injured after being rescued from the rubble he was trapped in for over 24 hours.

This was confirmed by Hatayspor manager Mustafa Özat, who said the club’s sporting director, but has yet to be found.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also reported earlier that the Ghanaian winger had difficulty breathing after being rescued.

“Christian Atsu has been found alive and has now been rescued from the wreckage and transported to hospital after sustaining an injury to his right leg and suffering from respiratory distress. Stay strong, Chris!” Romano wrote on Facebook.
