Christian Atsu still missing – Hatayspor team doctor

On Monday, it appeared that Atsu had been trapped in the rubble after the earthquake that devastated parts of Turkey.

Atsu, who currently plays for Turkish club Hatayspor, was trapped in the rubble along with the club’s sporting director Taner Savut.

However, after several hours of searching for the duo, it was reported on Tuesday morning that the Ghanaian was finally found alive and is being treated in hospital.

Latest reports indicate that the footballer is not yet accounted for, Ghana’s Ambassador to Turkey confirmed the matter on Wednesday.

“When we heard the news that ‘he was taken to Dortyol Hospital’, we especially went and looked, but there was nothing,” Hatayspor doctor Gurbey Kahveci told Hurrityet Turkey, as quoted by Joy Sports.

“Now, we accept it [the sporting director] Taner Savut and Christian Atsu were not found, unfortunately.

Meanwhile, Ghanaian international player Mubarak Wakaso and his close friend Atsu have issued a statement calling for the footballer’s family to be given privacy at this difficult time.

“After yesterday’s update from the club, Kristen has been pulled out alive, we have not confirmed where Kristen is,” Wakaso wrote in a statement shared on his Twitter page.

“As you can imagine, this continues to be a devastating time for the family and we are doing everything we can to find Christian.

“Official updates will be provided when more information is available. Please respect the family’s privacy at this terrible time, and do not spread unsubstantiated news as this will only hinder efforts to find Christian. Thank you for all your prayers and support.”

Meanwhile, reports from Turkey indicate that the earthquake has disrupted the telecommunications network in Hatayspor, making it difficult to communicate by phone.
