Joy of life. Chris Stapleton always put his family first even when he’s on the road.
The “Traveller” artist met his wife now, Morgan Stapleton, when they wrote songs for the same Nashville publishing company. They exchanged vows in 2007 and continue to collaborate with each other.
“Make no mistake, [Morgane’s hands are] always all about,” the eight-time Grammy winner told Rare Country in 2017. “He’s Jiminy Cricket in a lot of ways. He was the voice of reason, because I wasn’t always good enough.
Chris describes the dynamic in the studio, teasing: “He’s been known to make me change keys. He’ll be like, ‘Higher.’ I was like, ‘Okay.’ I’m lazy on the keys sometimes. I’ll key down, so I can sing it below life. He won’t let me be lazy about things like that. He knows when I do it, and no one else knows.
While celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary in October that year, Morgane announced she was pregnant with twins. (The “Tennessee Whiskey” crooner and duet partner are parents to son Waylon and daughter Ada.)
“14 years, 2 babies, and 2 more on the way. Happy 10th birthday babe! You make my world go round,” she said via Instagram alongside a romantic black and white photo of her and Chris.
Babies No. 3 and 4 arrived in April 2018 – and Reba McEntire there is one to break the news for country music fans. “Chris can’t be here because Morgane is expecting twins,” the “Fancy” singer said on stage at the 2018 Academy of Country Music Awards after Chris won Album of the Year for From the Room: Volume 1. “We just know the little bastards came a little early. Hot off the press! Twins.”
Seven months later, the “Fire Away” artist announced during a concert in New York City that he and Morgane were expecting their fifth child. “Some of you may know we have four kids,” Chris told the crowd in November 2018. “We just had twins, about seven months ago. We have four now, but we’re going to make it five!
Morgane gave birth to another baby boy in May 2019, but the proud parents have yet to reveal the child’s name. As his family continued to grow, Chris kept his children safe.
“I registered this, my children did not. I am a very private person, and in that regard, I let my children out of it. They are children, and they deserve to be children,” said The Boot in 2018.
As the music industry shut down due to the COVID-19 crisis in 2020 and 2021, causing many A-listers to pause their tours, the “Broken Halos” singer cherished the extra time with her loved ones.
“The silver lining and the mixed blessing during the pandemic for me is that I have had more time to be a father and with my children than I did, of course as a touring musician. I have three children under 3 years old and I have two older ones it’s 12 and 10,” said UMG Nashville in April 2021. “When I went in to get the boy in the morning and I opened the door, he said. ‘Daddy’ before I opened the door, and I’ve never experienced anything like that. So, it’s a great thing for me to be able to have, so I’m grateful and grateful. Even though I’m looking forward to getting back on the road, I’m going to miss it a little bit.”
