Chris Hughton will do well if nobody interferes in his work – Dan Quaye

Hughton served as a technical advisor under former Ghana coach Otto Addo during the Qatar 2022 World Cup and now replaces the latter as the leader.

“We should not rush the coach because he will now build the team, we should not put unnecessary pressure on him to make the right calls,” he said. Dan Quaye told Bryt FM, as quoted by Footballghana.

“Ghana is blessed with talent, but the only problem we have is interference. So if we have been given a job, we should be given the opportunity to work freely without interference.

“I have no problem with Hughton’s appointment but if his job is interfered with he will not be successful. I believe he has something to do well if he is not affected.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced Hughton as the new coach of the Black Stars on Sunday evening.

An FA statement said the former Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur manager will be assisted by George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani.

Hughton’s managerial career has seen him manage at different levels, including previously serving under different managers at Tottenham, where he joined the role of Republic of Ireland assistant coach.

In 2008, he was announced as Newcastle United’s first team coach under Kevin Keegan. In September of that year, he became interim manager following Keegan’s exit.

He was then appointed permanent manager of Newcastle after their relegation to the Championship and he guided them to promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Hughton has since managed Birmingham City, Norwich City, Brighton and Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest, in an illustrious managerial career so far.
