A late goal by substitute Antoine Semenyo was the difference between the two teams as Chris Hughton made a winning start as Ghana coach.
However, many fans were shocked after captain Andre Ayew was left out of the matchday squad by Hughton.
The Nottingham Forest forward then sat out against Black Antelope, with Thomas Partey leading the side as captain.
Asked about his decision to drop Ayew in his post-match press conference, Hughton praised the captain’s qualities, but said coaches sometimes have to make tough decisions.
“This is your choice as a head coach. You know the quality that Andre has, you also know the quality that I want the squad to have,” the Black Stars boss said.
“So this is a very difficult decision for me; certainly not to read into that. He, has been and still is a very good player, is my only choice.
Hughon also delved into his team’s performance against Angola, insisting he was impressed with how they created the opportunity.
However, he was quick to add that his players need to be more clinical in order to win matches more convincingly.
“We had 11 chances to be the first positive. If you told us that we played 96 minutes and we only had two or three chances, then it was worrying, but the fact that we had chances you always know… the chances are remote.”
“The one thing we learned is that we have to be more clinical when we have the opportunity,” Hughton added.
Ghana will face Angola again on Monday, as the Black Stars aim to complete their qualification to AFCON 2023.
