Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), once a key ally of Donald Trump, on Monday explained how he will take on the former president who is the 2024 Republican nominee in the GOP primary debate.
“You better have someone on stage who can do what I did to Marco because that’s the only thing that’s going to defeat Donald Trump,” Christie said at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics on Monday, referring to the Florida GOP’s skewering of the primary debate. Sen. Marco Rubio in 2016.
“And that means you have to have the skills to do it and that means you have to be fearless because they’re going to come back and beat you,” Christie said.
“You have to think about, who has the skills to do it and who can do it,” he said. “Because it’s not going to end well. It doesn’t matter. It’s not going to be a calm, peaceful conclusion.
Christie challenged Trump for the GOP nomination in 2016.
After dropping out of the race, Christie strongly endorsed the reality TV personality before blasting him for rigging the 2020 election.
Christie has teased a run in 2024 but has yet to officially announce a campaign.
