And for the second time in a row, the Chiefs can win – as slim and lucky as it is.

The leaders will be blaming missed chances in their 1-0 win over Richards Bay at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban on Saturday evening.

Two weeks ago Chiefs failed to capitalize after the Golden Arrows had cut to 10 in the first half.

In fact, Arrows beat Amakhosi 3-2 after coming from behind twice.

Last weekend they managed a lucky win over Orlando Pirates who were reduced to 10 with just over 10 minutes to go.

This time it looked like the Chiefs could score more as they got the start they wanted when they took the lead eight minutes into the game.

They were awarded a free kick which Mduduzi Shabalala swung in and Siyabonga Ngezana converted with a fine header. The Chiefs had a few more chances after that and kept the front side pinned again.

Richards Bay were reduced to 10 in the 20th minute when Salim Magoola handled the ball outside the box and was shown a straight red card.

Fans call Bimenyimana sub, Zwane obliges

They were out to try and reduce the danger with Keagan Dolly running onto a long ball which was well delivered by Siyethemba Sithebe.

This forced the home team into an early change with Langelihle Mhlongo being sacrificed for Neil Boshoff.

With a numerical advantage, the Chiefs tried to get a second but wasted several opportunities.

Caleb Bimenyimana controlled a long ball but his effort was saved by Boshoff.

Still 1-0 at half time.

Richards Bay held their own in the second half and had several chances where they could find an equaliser.

Bimenyimana had the fans calling for a substitution in the 70th minute after a good ball from outside the box.

And Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane had to do it, taking on the lanky Burundian for Wandile Duba.

The result moves Chiefs to one in the DStv Premiership level with Pirates on 34 points after 22 games.
