The Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) Mr Charles Owusu has led the Operations and Technical Team to engage Chiefs and people in Western Nzema Traditional Area.
This is part of the Corporation’s periodic engagement with the people of the region to update them on the progress of the work being done in preparation for setting up Africa’s first Petroleum and Petrochemical Hub in the Jomoro enclave.
In a forum at the Jomoro Municipal Assembly Hall, Mr. Owusu stressed the government’s commitment to ensure that the estimated investment of $60 Billion is seen brightly this year – 2023.
He disclosed some of the operational activities that have been completed in the acquisition of 20,000 hectares of land required for the project.
He stated that all the necessary documentation has been submitted pending the approval of the cabinet and the issuance of executive instruments to complete the process of land acquisition from the chiefs and people of the area.
Mr. Owusu further explained that the Corporation is at an advanced stage in discussions and negotiations with investors to enter phase one for the project to commence.
He assured the public that constitutionally deserved compensation would be paid to farmers, landowners and affected communities after the compulsory land acquisition process was completed.
He called on the Jomoro community, especially the community directly affected by the project to remain optimistic and encourage the project to succeed.

The Paramount Chief of the region, Awulae Annor Adjaye III expressed his great joy at the update and the insight he shared.
He hoped that the project would bring much-needed development to his people and would create several opportunities for the youth of Nzema West.
The Operations and Technical Team, led by the Deputy CEO, Nana Ama Tima Boakye took the time to explain the project phases and implementation plans highlighting the different project components in the petroleum hub – oil refineries, petrochemical plants, storage facilities, jetties, ports and ancillary infrastructure apart.
Other officials who attended were the Minister of the Western Region, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Municipal Chief Executive, Louisa Iris Arde, Nananom, Regional Coordinating Council Staff, Men & Women Assembly, Youth Groups, Opinion Leaders and other stakeholders from project affected communities.
Mr. Owusu and his team also engaged the community through radio interviews and phone segments on Ebiamo FM, New Day FM and West FM to address direct and relevant questions and queries from callers in the community.
