Charles Akonnor delighted after receiving Kenya Premier League Coach of the Season award
Ghanaian coach Charles Akonnor has expressed his excitement after being named Coach of the Season in the 2025/26 Kenya Premier League, following an impressive campaign with Gor Mahia.
The SportPesa League awards ceremony was held on Thursday, June 4, at the Glee Hotel in Nairobi, where the best performers of the season were honoured.
The event brought together players, coaches, match officials, content creators and fans to celebrate a season filled with competitive football and standout performances across the league.
Akonnor’s success with Gor Mahia, also known as K’Ogalo, earned him the prestigious coaching award after a strong league campaign.
He edged out AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani and APS Bomet’s Sammy Omollo to claim the top coaching prize of the season.
Speaking after receiving the award, Akonnor paid tribute to his club’s management, technical staff, supporters and players for their collective effort throughout the season.
“I thank God for a wonderful job. I thank management for their support. It’s been wonderful. When we were facing challenges, we would always go to them, and they would support us. So we are very grateful. I want to thank my assistants and the entire technical team. Of course, I have to remind myself of our supporters. They are really good. They don’t understand losing, but they always support us.
“Above all, I have to thank the players. Especially, their mental toughness. It has been really good, and I’m grateful,” the Ghanaian coach said.
The night also proved memorable for Ghanaian football, as midfielder Enoch Morisson of Gor Mahia was named Player of the Season.
