Centralize Independence Day Celebration To Save Cost – MP | Politics

Sylvester Tetteh, Member of Parliament for Bortiano Ngleshie Amanfro Constituency in the Greater Accra Region called for centralized Independence Day celebrations in the 16 regions to save costs.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Tema, Sylvester Tetteh stressed that the centralization of the Independence Day celebrations will help reduce the costs associated with various celebrations across the district.

He said the executive arm of the government should consider the recommendations saying that the country is currently under serious debt and some pragmatic decisions need to be taken to save the country.

He stressed that the centralized parade by the Metropolitan and District Municipal Assemblies (MMDA) in Greater Accra saved more than 60 percent of the expenditure incurred in previous years.

According to him, the remaining 15 regions should emulate the move due to the financial crisis the country is facing.

He said the Independence Day celebration is a moment when the country takes stock of its gains and reflects on how to make progress in the coming year.

Meanwhile, Henry Quartey, Minister of the Greater Accra Region has disclosed that holding a joint Regional Independence Day in the region instead of the usual District celebration saved the country over GHs1.5 million.

Henry Quartey called on Ghanaians especially residents of the Region to continue trying to expand the country’s democracy even as Ghana celebrates its independence and the 30th anniversary of the fourth republic.
