Center for Religion and Public Life petitions Parliament to reject Anti-LGBTQ Bill

In recent months, the LGBT community in Ghana has increased calls for homosexual activities and same-sex marriage to be legalized.

However, some Members of Parliament, led by Ningo Prampram MP Sam Nartey George, sponsored a bill to criminalize all gay activities in the country.

An anti-LGBTQ+ bill is currently in Parliament, but CRPL-Ghana believes that the bill is an affront to Christ’s teachings of love, justice, and mercy.

“If homosexuality is a terrible sin as described today, Christ Jesus would have been against it. But there are no words of Jesus reported about homosexuality in the Gospels. part of the proposal said.

“The Old Testament and the New Testament mention all kinds of sin, including fornication, idolatry, fornication, fornication, lust, homosexuality, theft, lying, greed, lying, and drunkenness. We see no evidence that homosexuality has become important (1 Cor. 6:9).

It adds: “The Church is given the task of serving peace, love, justice, and reconciliation and not hatred, discrimination, and condemnation. Only Christ can punish because only He is without sin; all others are sinners (Romans 3:23-24).

“In our opinion, culture is a product of religion, and any reference to the law in a constitutional secular country like ours should be done in perspective and with care and caution.

“The bill, if passed, could open the door to religious fundamentalism and extremism in the country.”

The non-profit research and interfaith advocacy organization further stated that they are ready to appear in Parliament for more dialogue on the subject.
