CBI boss Tony Danker to step aside amid conduct probe

The head of the CBI, Tony Danker, has resigned amid allegations of workplace misconduct at Britain’s biggest business group.

The CBI on Monday said it had been informed about the allegations against the director general in January, which were being investigated and dealt with “in accordance with CBI procedures”. It said the investigation had “determined that the matter did not warrant escalation to disciplinary proceedings”.

However, the business organization said it had been informed of further reports about Danker’s conduct in the workplace, which “will lead to an independent investigation into this new matter”.

Danker asked to recuse himself from his role in the investigation, it added.

“The CBI takes all matters of workplace conduct very seriously, but it is important to emphasize that, until this investigation is complete, there are new allegations that have not been proven and it is not appropriate to comment further at this stage.”

Danker has been director general of the CBI since November 2020, and was previously chief executive of Be the Business, a lobby group. He was also an executive at the Guardian News & Media group and at McKinsey.
