Carrie Fisher receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the fourth May honor for one of them Star Wars the franchise’s favorite character.
On Thursday, Fisher — who died in 2016 — joined Star Wars co-stars Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill in a Hollywood tourist attraction that recognizes luminaries from film, television, music and other entertainment industries. The trio stars all on the 6,800 block of Hollywood Boulevard, near where the original film debuted in 1977.
Fisher plays Leia Organa, who through six films morphed from a princess to a general leading good forces in the fight against an oppressive regime aiming to control a galaxy far, far away. Billie Lourd will receive the star for her mother.
Fans have long campaigned for him to get a Walk of Fame star. The honor comes on the fourth of May, meaning the official holiday for Star Wars fans who play in the line that Fisher said often in the movie, “May the Force be with you.”
Devotees around the world are celebrating with various tributes, while retailers are running special sales Star Wars merchandise.
The induction ceremony will be held at 11:30 am PT and will be broadcast live by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
Fisher will be awarded the 2,754th star on the Walk of Fame. Ford received a star in 2003 and Hamill was honored in 2018.
Walk of Fame stars are awarded to players who are nominated and currently have to pay $75,000 to create the star and maintain it.
