Captain Lee Rosbach it is revealed that some crew members and guests are “monsters[s]” when the camera started filming. Below Deck has showcased some outrageous characters, many of whom are considered ‘villains.’
The captain has seen it all as he oversees every boat in the event. Lee is the only cast member still standing from the original season.
In an interview for Brandi Glanville‘s Not filtered podcast, via Showbiz Cheat Sheet, Captain Lee reveals that certain crew members are full. “You can tell people are drinking from the Kool-Aid bowl even before they get there,” he said.
The 73-year-old continued, “When producers hire our actors, they do so with certain prerequisites in mind, in terms of their personality type… [Like] they are funny, they have a sense of humor. In general, they are attractive. Otherwise, his personality makes him attractive. That’s why we hired him because we could teach him everything there was to know about scrubbing the deck, scrubbing the handrails…”
Some stars of the franchise have shown that crew members are recruited by casting agent and not the captain himself (although the captain can fire any employee he wants).
“Then we do a process called STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Supervision), where they learn everything they need to know about basic safety and things like that, and all the rules they have to follow,” the captain said.
“And they have to pass the test,” Lee continued. “So there’s everything involved and then something happens between that moment and when the cameras start rolling. Because as soon as the cameras start rolling, some people just morph into this monster. Like, ‘Who is this guy? And what are you doing with my deck?’ “
He then points out that the guests can “do the same thing as the crew… As soon as the camera rolls, they become this monster. You remember Charley? Charlie Walters. He has been three times. Group of gay people. And I swear to God, they spend every year… Me, three years in a row. And as soon as they get close, it seems like they all caucus together and dream of just crazy things they can do to make everyone’s lives harder.
Charley has angered fans, especially with his demanding demands. After the scene aired, Charley stated that the producers wanted it. “I’m used to this, gang. Do you think BravoTV has returned the guests to play nice and ‘not demanding’? That’s not what he said!” guest tweeted.
Regarding his picky breakfast order, Charley suggested he was under the influence. “You are told to make the most extravagant order you can think of,” he wrote separately tweet.
Captain Lee explained, “We actually told some of our guests to stop trying to be TV producers. Enjoy your vacation. Do what you’re going to do, but don’t try to create magical and memorable moments because you’re not good.
