A Canadian man was shot dead in Mexico’s Pacific coast beach town of Puerto Escondido, prosecutors said Tuesday.

He is the second foreign tourist to die in the southern state of Oaxaca in less than a week.

Oaxaca state prosecutors said Tuesday that a Canadian man was found dead in a car with bullet wounds in the Puerto Escondido neighborhood where several tourists were staying.

Prosecutors did not provide a possible motive in the killing. The dead man was identified as Victor Masson, 27, but no information was available on his hometown.

The killings came three days after a man from Argentina was seriously injured in a machete attack in another coastal city in Oaxaca.

Prosecutors said an Argentine tourist – whose name was not released – died of injuries in a hospital in Mexico City.

He was among a group of three Argentines who were attacked by Mexicans with machetes in the village of La Isla, at the mouth of Laguna de Chacahua, on the Pacific coast. Two other tourists were also injured in the attack, but their injuries were not life-threatening.

Laguna de Chacahua is about 100 kilometers west of Puerto Escondido.
