Buhari drums support for Tinubu in Sokoto as APC candidate pledges to tackle kidnapping

President Muhammadu Buhari has again drummed support for the presidential candidate from organized the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, said the candidate is a long-term ally.

Speaking separately at the palace of the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, and at the APC campaign rally in Sokoto on Thursday, the president said Mr. Tinubu has demonstrated his capacity and will do well if elected to lead the country.

“He knows Nigeria very well and he always supports people from wherever they come from in Nigeria,” the president told the Sultan.

“I have gone with him to Nasarawa and Katsina and I am with him now. I will also go with him wherever he goes. He is the candidate of our party. He came out of the primaries which was clear and transparent. So we must follow him as the flag bearer of the party .

Asking for support for Mr. Abubakar, the president said: “We are here to ask for support and help. I am sure we will get the help we need.

Mr. Buhari, who was visibly elated, thanked the crowd for the rousing reception, braving the scorching sun to attend the event.

Presenting Mr. Tinubu to the electorate, Mr. Buhari encouraged them to support him and extended his appeal for support for the APC candidate to all other citizens.

At the palace and rally, Mr. Tinubu expressed his appreciation to the leaders and people of Sokoto for their warm reception, promising to free himself if given the mandate.

Describing Sokoto as home for him, the APC candidate appealed for support, asking voters to ignore the antics of other candidates.

“In 2015, the new leaders came to sweep away the dirt with a broom. But the dirt is still on the ground. We said we need to clean some more. I applied to be a vacuum cleaner so I could clean up the dirt,” said the crowd.

“We promise to work hard. We will eradicate corruption. We will eradicate the madness called kidnapping. We will work hard to clean Nigeria of garbage.

“We promise you better education, job opportunities and better markets for agricultural produce that will make you and your children happy,” he said.

In his speech, APC Vice Presidential Candidate, Kashim Shettima, challenged PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar to name eight projects he has done in the north and eight people he mentored in his eight years as vice president.

He advised the people of Sokoto State to ignore the campaign of the PDP section telling voters to vote for themselves, saying that Atiku is only in their pocket.

Speaking on why the north should vote for Mr. Tinubu, Mr. Shettima described him as a good man who always stands with the famous sons of the region.

Quoting a Quranic verse, Mr. Shettima added: “The reward for goodness is goodness. He has supported many of our people from Shehu Musa Yar’Adua to Atiku Abubakar in 2007, Nuhu Ribadu in 2011, and President Buhari in 2015 and in 2019. We good people. We can trust them. They support our people, it’s time for revenge.

“We must come together and acquit ourselves as honorable men who keep their word.”

In separate comments, the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Atiku Bagudu and the National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Adamu, all urged voters in the state to support the APC presidential candidate. and other candidates from the party.

The host and leader of the APC in Sokoto, Aliyu Wamakko, assured Mr. Buhari and Mr. Tinubu of a big victory for the party in the coming polls.

He said the APC in Sokoto received many defectors who were not satisfied with the current PDP government in the state.

Mr. Wamakko presented thousands of defectors to APC, including renowned philanthropist Umarun Kwabo AA (Jarman Sokoto).

Other party officials and leaders who attended the rally included Governors Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa) and Bello Matawalle (Zamfara) as well as former Governors Saidu Dakin Gari (Kebbi), Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara) and Mohammed Abubakar (Bauchi).

Others are the Minister of Police, Mohammed Dingyadi; Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare; The Deputy National Chairman of APC (North), Abubakar Kyari, members of the National Assembly and other party leaders.
