BTCPay Server Adds WabiSabi CoinJoin Plugin, Giving Option For Increased Privacy For Merchants

Merchants using BTCPay Server will now be able to protect their privacy using the CoinJoin Wasabi Wallet coordination protocol.

Bitcoin payment processing software BTCPay Server has added the CoinJoin plugin for merchants, so they can maintain their privacy while managing their store. Stores that enable the Wasabi Wallet-based WabiSabi CoinJoin coordination protocol will be able to automatically CoinJoin all bitcoins they receive.

A CoinJoin is when two or more people combine their transactions into one transaction, in such a way that it is not clear who owns the coins after the transaction.

Plugin, developed by Andrew Camilleri, also offers payment batching in the CoinJoin feature, allowing users to pay addresses directly in CoinJoin transactions. This will save blockchain space and increase privacy compared to making payments in two steps, said a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine.

The BTCPay Server plugin also includes a coin selection interface that allows merchants to spend coins based on the anonymity score they get. By using the WabiSabi CoinJoin protocol, merchants can perform an arbitrary number of CoinJoins instead of fixed denomination CoinJoins, reducing the number of non-personal changes users receive and making payments on CoinJoin possible.

“BTCPay Server is the most advanced merchant payment processing software for bitcoin. It only makes sense to include the optional CoinJoin plugin with the most advanced privacy-enhancing tools for Bitcoin,” said Max Hillebrand, Wasabi Wallet contributor and CEO at zkSNACKs. Users can access the dashboard to assess the level of privacy of the wallet and the details of the CoinJoin transaction they are currently participating in, and gain additional insight and control with the choice of coins and exiting CoinJoin transactions.

All BTCPay Server merchants can now use the new CoinJoin feature. They can choose CoinJoin for a fee with the coordinator provided by zkSNACKs, and all BTCPay Server admins can roll up their own CoinJoin coordinator using their own terms, built on the WabiSabi protocol CoinJoin Wasabi Wallet. If users run their own coordinators, the BTCPay Server Plugin also offers an optional revenue sharing feature that donates a percentage of the proceeds to the HRF and OpenSats foundations.
