Arrest warrant for Bryan Kohberger has finally been released after having been closed for 60 days.
More than six weeks after the shocking murder of University of Idaho student Maddie Magen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodleand Ethan Chapin, the police surprised the general public – and the suspect himself – with a quick arrest. At Moscow Police Department has become silent about the case, everyone thinks the authorities have nothing to do with it. It turns out that they have treasure, as revealed in the probable cause affidavit.
The arrest warrant, on the other hand, has remained sealed since the arrest – and was only revealed to the public on Friday, two full months after the December 30 arrest in front of his parents in eastern Pennsylvania. While much of the evidence that led to Kohberger’s identification and arrest is contained in the affidavit, the arrest warrant still reveals the bulk of the evidence that will be used in the murder trial.

The warrant alleges Kohberger and her father came back to the Chestnuthill Township home on Dec. 16. On December 27 the police saw him walking outside. On December 28, he ran some errands in the district before returning. Pretty ordinary stuff.
The biggest new piece of information was the items taken from the 28-year-old during his arrest. The warrant is listed:
- Defiant silver flashlight
- four medical style gloves
- white Arizona Jean Co. large T-shirt
- Champion WSU Cougars large black sweatshirt
- black and white Nike shoes size 13
- a pair of black Under Armor socks
- Under Armor black big shorts
- Under Armor big black boxers
- One baccal swab
A flashlight is a type that is mainly used for camping, hiking, and hunting. It is unclear whether police believe it was used at the Moscow home that night. Baccal swab to take a DNA sample, something the warrant is looking for. It’s no surprise that we already know that a knife sheath was found near Maddie Mogen’s body – and that police were able to remove the DNA from it.
It is considered that the dress is the only thing he wears. It’s worth noting that it’s almost all black – a surviving roommate who saw the killer noted that he was wearing all black, and the statement says that the police are looking for black clothing specifically. The shoes might be too big — the statement says they’re looking for sneakers with a “diamond-shaped pattern.” It is clear that the killer left traces in the blood.
The “medical-style gloves” are interesting because they confirm the January leak. Just a week after his arrest, a friend of the Pennsylvania police claimed that Kohberger was being monitored before his arrest, that every time he left his parents’ house, he wore “surgical gloves.” Not the kind of gloves you wear in New England in the winter, the kind you wear to prevent DNA or fingerprints on anything. If he had two pairs, that would be accurate. The officer also told the source Kohberger appeared obsessively cleaning his car and trying to sneak trash into his neighbor’s trash can. Both observations are now thought to be more valid.
While the warrant included permission to seize — and submit for “forensic examination” — any electronic devices at Kohberger’s, it did not say they found them. That’s strange considering the phone info, provided earlier by AT&T, helped show the police that he had been in the same area as the victim for a month. And we have also heard that the police have a phone – and found a photo on one of the victims. Is the information also from the cell company? What is a photo in the cloud? Did they throw away the original physical phone? Hmm.
We may have to wait until the actual trial to find out where these objects become important to the case. What do you think of the newly revealed evidence?
