Tragic news about Hollywood today, as the family of Bruce Willis has shared a sad update about the health problems that still plague the screen icon.
The family announced last year that Willis would retire from acting after being diagnosed with aphasia, a condition that prevents him from speaking.
Now, Willis’ wife, Emma Heming Willis, has announced that Angel died the condition of the star has deteriorated further.
According to Emma, Bruce has recently been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.
“Our family wants to start by saying our biggest thank you for the love, support and incredible stories we’ve received since sharing Bruce’s original diagnosis,” Emma wrote on Instagram.
“In that spirit, we want to tell you about our beloved husband, father and friend as we now know a little more about what he went through.
“Since we announced Bruce’s aphasia diagnosis in the spring of 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed and he now has a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD),” he continued.
“Unfortunately, communication challenges are just one of the symptoms of the disease Bruce is dealing with. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis.
Emma added that Bruce can’t speak for himself on this matter, but he knows that he wants to use his platform to create greater awareness for others who are suffering.
“Bruce has always believed in using his voice in the world to help others, and to raise awareness of important issues both publicly and privately,” she said.
“We know in our hearts – if we can today – we want to respond by giving global attention and connecting with people who also experience this painful disease and how it affects so many people and their families.”
Emily ended with a message of thanks to those who have given her kind words and support during this difficult journey.
“Bruce has always found joy in life – and has helped everyone he knows to do the same,” he concluded.
“It means the world sees that caring coming back to him and all of us.
“We are deeply moved by all of your love for our beloved husband, father, and friend during this difficult time. Your compassion, understanding, and respect will help Bruce live life to the fullest.
As the name suggests, frontotemporal dementia is a condition that affects the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, the areas that control speech, as well as motor skills such as walking.
It is the most common form of dementia affecting people under the age of 60.
At press time, Bruce’s other loved ones, including his five children and ex-wife Demi Moore have not spoken publicly about his diagnosis.
