The body responsible for refereeing in the Premier League admitted on Sunday that Brentford’s equalizer in their 1-1 draw against Premier League leaders Arsenal was not properly checked by VAR officials.

The Gunners dropped two big points in the title race when Ivan Toney headed in after a scramble in Arsenal territory.
A lengthy VAR review was carried out after the goal to check whether Ethan Pinnock was offside and interfered with play before the move.
But the VAR officials then missed the fact Christian Norgaard was in an offside position when he held the ball for Toney’s equaliser.
Brentford’s goal was not the only controversy on a bad Saturday as it was official in the Premier League.
Brighton had the wrong goal conceded in their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.
Pervis Estupinan’s strike was disallowed after a VAR review deemed the Ecuadorian offside.
However, the line drawn by VAR officials to determine offside was used by the wrong Palace defender with Marc Guehi standing behind James Tomkins.
“PGMOL can confirm Chief Referee Howard Webb has contacted Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion to acknowledge and explain the significant error in the VAR process in Saturday’s Premier League match,” said a statement issued by PGMOL.
“Both incidents, which were due to human error and related to the analysis of the offside situation, are being fully reviewed by PGMOL.”
A Brighton spokesman said the Seagulls were “deeply disappointed by the error” but had apologized to PGMOL.
Those two incidents were far from the only controversial calls of the weekend.
Chelsea were also denied a late penalty in their 1-1 draw at West Ham when Tomas Soucek handled Conor Gallagher’s shot inside the box.
“I thought it was a good save,” said Chelsea boss Graham Potter. “I didn’t know Tomas could go down so easily and save like that. But I don’t have to talk about VAR.
