Borno Rep re-elected for fifth term

The Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Aliyu Betara, has won his re-tender for re-election for a fifth term to represent Biu/Bayo/Kwaya Kusar/Shani Federal Constituency of Borno State.

Mr. Betara who is a candidate for president All Progressive Congress (APC); polling a total of 71,427 votes to defeat his nearest rival Mohammed Biu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 15,514 votes for second place.

Speaking about the election results, Mr. Betara said he will continue to push for the interests of the people when he returns to the DPR.

“As you can see, there is no reason or reason to disappoint my people when I return to Abuja because today, they have fulfilled their promise to bring me back and it is my turn to fulfill the social contract they have entered into.

“I will continue to do my best to represent interests and prioritize legislative decisions and activities for the next four years, God willing.

“I also want to thank the leaders of the great APC party for their continuous support and encouragement over the years. I pray for total victory in the presidential and gubernatorial elections so that together we can provide Nigerians with the quality leadership they deserve,” he said.

Pak Betara was first elected to the lower legislative chamber in 2007.
