Black Stars defender Abdul Mumin weighs up offers from Spain, France and England

Ghana international Abdul Mumin is considering offers from clubs in Spain, France, England and Major League Soccer (MLS) as he prepares to decide on the next chapter of his career.

The 28-year-old centre-back became a free agent after rejecting a contract extension from Rayo Vallecano. The La Liga side offered a reduced salary, which Mumin turned down, bringing an end to his stay with the Spanish club.

Mumin endured a frustrating 2025/26 campaign after suffering a serious ACL injury in March 2025 that sidelined him for over 400 days. He returned to action in April 2026, coming off the bench against Espanyol, and went on to make three La Liga appearances before the end of the season.

His comeback earned him a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, underlining the confidence the Black Stars technical team still have in his abilities.

With his contract expired, the defender can now negotiate with other clubs as a free agent. Several sides are monitoring the situation, with Spanish outfits Osasuna and Girona showing strong interest. Clubs in the Premier League and France’s Ligue 1 are also tracking his availability, drawn by the prospect of signing an experienced La Liga defender without paying a transfer fee.

Mumin is now carefully considering his options as he looks to secure a fresh challenge and continue his career at the highest level. His decision will likely depend on the project, playing time assurances, and the right environment to rebuild after his lengthy injury layoff.

The 28-year-old joined Rayo from Vitória Guimarães in 2022 and had been a regular starter before his injury, earning praise for his physical style and defensive reliability.

He has made five appearances for Ghana’s senior national team.
