Nicky Henderson is eyeing the Betfair Ascot Chase in February for Shishkin’s next outing.
The handler of Seven Barrows revealed earlier this month that the nine-year-old has “flipped the ceiling” in a piece of work and needs 10 days when the problem is solved, the rules out step up in the distance for Silviniaco Conti Chase in Kempton.
Shishkin – beaten third behind Edwardstone in the Tingle Creek Chase on his reappearance this season – will now attempt the trip over two miles for the first time over fences in a Grade One feature at Ascot next month.
Giving an update on the plans at Kempton Park on Friday, Henderson said: “He has felt tightened and the procedure is simple, it’s like tightening a screw that comes loose. They call it a wind op, but in fact it’s as far from a wind op as you can get, and he’s back in action .
“The race we are looking at is the Ascot Chase [February 18] over two miles-five. The timing seems good.
“The first time I knew he wanted two and a half was to fight Energumene when he was out of his comfort zone but still beating other people.

“We knew there was a problem, but after a few reverses, they are ready to come back, and I would say there is a chance we will go to Ryanair. [at Cheltenham].
“If this works, we can regret not signing him for the Queen Mother, but if we want to run, we can add him.
“We have very good horses like Sprinter [Sacre] that has to come back, and he’s the latest.”
