Bayelsa Taye government has built a new orientation camp for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the country.
The camp, located in Boro town, Kaiama Local Government Area, was inaugurated by the federal government on Saturday.
In his remarks, Governor Duoye Diri said the increase in the number of corps members sent to the country hastened the government’s plans to complete the construction of the camp to entertain Nigerian youths sent to the country to serve the country.
He ordered that two new additional dormitories be built in the camp, for boys and girls, to “provide friendly accommodation for groups of Corps Members to be sent to the States”.
The governor also ordered that each member of the Corps be paid N10,000 as transportation allowance from the Camp to the Main Duty Station (PPA).

The Minister of Youth Development and Sports, Minggu Dare, during the inauguration, commended Mr. Diri for “providing a conducive environment through several moves for the NYSC Bayelsa State Secretariat which has improved the smooth operation of the Scheme”.

Mr. Dare, who was represented by the NYSC Director General, Yusha’u Ahmed, said the “completion of the new camp is another clear testimony of the Governor’s passion for the advancement of Nigerian youths who are trained and mentored for citizenship and leadership roles on the NYSC platform”.
He added that the governor’s government has produced many people-oriented policies and programs that have yielded dividends of democracy.

“I assure you that we will continue to reciprocate the movement through the deployment of Corps members who will contribute to the development of the State and the host community,” Mr. Dare said.
The Minister also appealed to the Governors of other States to upgrade the facilities in their respective orientation camps to accommodate at least five thousand corps members.
