The Bayelsa government on Wednesday dissociated itself from the list of 10 state governments opposed to the naira redesign policy and reiterated its support to the Federal Government on the exercise.
The government in a statement issued in Yenagoa called for an apology from a group of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) under the Central Coordinating Council of Civil Society Organizations.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Bayelsa distance statement from opposing the new policy was signed by Ayibaina Duba, the Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy.
Bayelsa State together with Edo State, on Wednesday, identified with the Naira redesign policy by joining the federal government to fight against 10 other states that are plaintiffs in the suit challenging the policy at the Supreme Court.
Mr Duba noted that the CSOs through their member, Gabriel Ojemena, falsely alleged in a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday that Gov Douye Diri was among the group of 10 governors who opposed President Muhammadu Buhari on the Naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
According to the statement, the CSO also claimed that the 10 governors disrespected the President and planned to make the country ungovernable if the policy was not reversed.
Mr. Duba said the false claims were not only baseless and baseless allegations, but also disturbing and provocative.
The commissioner noted that more ridiculousness and insensitivity came when the governor mourned his father.

“Government is especially disappointed that CSOs who should know better than to present themselves as agents-provocateurs to misinform Nigerians.
“The government has asked the CSO to study the papers filed by several states in the Supreme Court on the demand for new notes instead of spreading fakes.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Gov Diri is not opposed to the Naira redesign policy of the CBN or the Federal Government. What he is opposed to is the difficulty of implementing the policy in Nigeria.
“When he spoke publicly about the policy a week ago, it was during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Kaduna South senatorial campaign in Zonkwa in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

“Comments in support of the policy are disrespectful and vague,” Mr Duba said.
Remembering what Mr. Diri said at the rally, he said: “We have to reset this country. The progress of the country is not about religion and tribe. It is about some people who have taken the wealth of this country for themselves.
“While we do not support the common people who are suffering because of the sudden CBN policy, the policy will change not only the currency but our attitude towards everything as leaders.

“When we asked the CBN to ensure that our people do not suffer, the other side, those who have bullion vans, who are ready to buy the presidency, the policy of the CBN is the fire of the Holy Spirit. That is why they are shouting. Why are they shouting like- like more affected than us?
“All the CBN is saying is that whoever does not get money should not have money in the bullion van to buy voters. That is all the CBN is saying and we support the policy.
However, it makes money available to those who have earned it through farms, trading and legitimate businesses. That’s all we’re saying. Duba quoted Self on February 7
The Bayelsa government, therefore, challenged the CSO, to show concrete evidence that the motive was not a job that ultimately went wrong.
“If the purpose is not done out of evil, why include Governor Diri, a PDP governor, among his colleagues in the All Progressives Congress (APC) who are said to be against the decisions made by the ruling party in government?
“By his character, Gov Diri has always, in his actions and actions, promoted the peace and unity of Nigeria.
So he will not engage in any activity that will harm the party or even the existence of the state enterprise,” Mr. Duba said.
