Bawumialogy: Leadership Through Divine Grace, Destiny And Providence | Features

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is undeniably a man of great competence, capacity and character. However, the steps that have been achieved so far are not only due to these qualities or their strength, but also from the word of God in their lives – which is in grace, destiny, and goodness.

The power of this magical force is undeniable when it comes to leadership. Leaders such as President Barack Obama have traveled that path to success.

During his first term as president, President Barack Obama defeated incumbents and veteran politicians such as Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Former Senator John Edwards, Senator Christopher Dodd, Senator Joe Biden, and Governor Bill Richardson to win the Democratic presidential election. Under extraordinary circumstances, he became President of the United States.

Through a combination of hard work, loyalty, and perseverance, he became President of the United States. He launched an effective campaign focused on the value of hope and change, inspiring and motivating millions of people to vote for him. President Obama believes in the power of divine grace, providence, and destiny, and he attributes his success to the ‘God factor’.

The narrative of David and Solomon in the Bible always reminds us how we can reach the pinnacle of leadership through grace, prayer, and destiny. The throne is not common. God chose an unconventional choice for a more traditional leadership role.

This divine energy has been a source of strength for many great leaders in history that has been used as a foundation to measure Olympian height, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is no exception.

I will focus on some striking episodes in the life of Dr. Bawumia has become outstanding considering the rise of the Sun and his achievements. These episodes shed light on how grace, destiny, and divine providence can shape people’s lives and careers, as well as act as catalysts for social impact.

At every appropriate moment, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has maintained his trust and faith in God to give him divine guidance and blessings. He never acknowledged the ‘God factor’ in public and private discourse.

Dr. AS Mahamudu Bawumia at the Bank of Ghana

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia started his career as an Economist at the Bank of Ghana in 2000. He later progressed to Senior Economist, and Chief Economist, where he served as the Head of the Monetary Policy and Financial Stability Department. He was also Special Assistant to the Governor of the Bank of Ghana at the same time.

Amazingly, all these milestones were realized within a record-breaking five (5) years. In normal events, it takes 12 years or more to reach the height of a career in the Bank of Ghana. More importantly, he rose to the top before his contemporaries and seniors arrived at the Bank of Ghana.

In 2006, President Kufuor appointed him as the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana.

Dr. AS Mahamudu Bawumia and Politics

It is recalled that when Nana Akufo Addo (as he used to) emerged as a Presidential candidate for the 2008 Presidential Election, there was fierce lobbying for the position of Vice Presidential Candidate among some party supporters and power blocs. Alhaji Boniface Sadique, Ambrose Derry, Hajia Alima Mahama, Alhaji MND Jawula of blessed memory, Alhaji Mustapha Iddrisu of blessed memory, and others are among those who sought the role. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who then served as the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, was not on the list of those who applied for the position. It was not something she had contemplated or advocated for.

As fate would have it, his name came up as a potential running mate for Nana Akufo Addo (as he is now). Dr. Bawumia had earlier stated that Nana Akufo Addo’s decision to name him as his running mate caught him off guard and it was only a matter of time before he accepted or rejected the offer. He eventually accepted the offer and ran with him in the 2008 Presidential election, which he led in the first round but lost by a margin of about 24,000 votes in the second round.

Since entering the front line, Dr. Bawumia has emerged as a political force to be reckoned with and a household brand in contemporary Ghanaian politics. They have gone through the mill and understand the basics of politics faster than you can imagine. He has achieved a huge level of acceptability in the rank and file of the NPP, and Ghanaians in general.

They are the longest running couple in the history of our four (4) republics, having twice been the running mate of the opposition presidential candidate and twice the running mate of the sitting presidential candidate.

It is no coincidence that he ran with President Nana Akufo Addo during this era. It would not be out of place to suggest that he was chosen from among others to fulfill his divine mandate and help the NPP through difficult times in the party and government. Who better to represent the NPP as a star witness during the 2012 Election Petition? Who can change political narratives or rhetoric into issue-based politics?

Who can give us the electoral level we need to break the electoral jinx in the northern region of Ghana? Who else can take the political and economic battle to the NDC and it has become a nightmare? Who could be a better Vice President for President Akufo Addo at this time? And who better to speak or stand for the success of Nana Akufo Addo’s government in the next election than him?

Conclusion

The belief that certain leaders are chosen by God’s power or fate is not new, but is increasingly embraced as more examples of successful leaders with a combination of skill, grace, destiny, and providence emerge.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, like President Barack Obama and others, is an example of a leader whose story illustrates how these divine forces can work together for success and the common good.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has divine grace in addition to skills and will be the next NPP Presidential Candidate and, ultimately, the President of Ghana, as destined.
