Bawumia Will Take Ghana To The Promise Land – Yendi MP | Politics

Yendi Member of Parliament, Farouk Aliu-Mahama, has said that Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia should be the flag bearer of his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Being a party’s presidential or parliamentary candidate, he believes, should not be based on the number of years he has been a party member.

He said those who said it was Alan Kyerematen’s turn to be the NPP flag bearer were wrong because there were people on the scene earlier, including Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, who was a rival to former President John Agyekum Kufour.

Aliu-Mahama, who said this in a JoyNews interview monitored by GhanaWeb on Sunday, added that the vice president in the past few years has proven that he has the capacity and competence to transform Ghana.

“My support for Dr. Bawumia is not because my late father wanted to see him. I have seen the vice president, in the shortest possible time, become a force to be reckoned with in this country.

“He has moved the country as vice president; he has done a lot. He has the vision to do more with the support of the president and has been admired by everyone; he is very competent.

“The vice president can at least lead Ghana to the promised land… Dr. Bawumia is a very tall man, for the last 16 years, everything has been about Bawumia. Even those who don’t like Bawumia are talking about him,” he said.

He warned the party to be careful in how it handles the upcoming presidential election to ensure that the party does not divide the party like it did in 2008, which resulted in the party losing the election.

He added that although all those who showed interest in participating in the party’s flag contest were competent, only one person could emerge as the winner.

Meanwhile, the vice president has been described as the flag bearer of the NPP in a recent study conducted by Outcomes International Ghana and the Center for Sustainable African Development Initiatives (C-SADI) UK.

According to the survey, the most popular candidate for the position of flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party in all 16 regions of Ghana is the vice president.

In total, the survey elicited responses from around 197,000 NPP polling station executives (PSEs) in all regions.

“Data was obtained mainly through computer-assisted personal interview technology (CAPI) between November 15, 2022 and December 15, 2022. Based on a confidence level of 95% and a margin of error of 2%, a sample size of 6000 PSEs was used. However, 5641 PSEs were successfully interviewed (response rate 94 %) of all 96 constituents.

“The Greater Accra region had the highest number of PSEs interviewed with 1142 PSEs, followed by the Ashanti region with 869 PSEs corresponding to 20.2% and 15.4% respectively. More than half of the PSEs who participated in the survey were Akan (54% [n=3056 PSEs]), and 46% (n=2585 PSE) are non-Akan. In terms of religious distribution, 78% of PSEs are Christians, and 20.6% are Muslims,” the report said.
