The Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, on Friday, January 6, 2022, visited the Tamale Central Mosque to recite the Qur’an and pray, receiving a hero’s welcome for the successful renovation of the mosque.
The Vice President has undertaken, at his personal expense, to complete the renovation of the historic mosque due to his country after more than 50 years.
Bawumia handed over the completed project to the leaders of the mosque including the Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Abdul Salam.
The Vice President took to social media to explain his visit to Tamale on Friday.
“This morning, I was at the Tamale Central Mosque to read the Al-Qur’an and pray, led by Sheikh Babadua. This prayer is a form of thanks for the successful completion of the renovation of the Tamale Central Mosque that I did.
“In the evening, I joined the Muslim congregation for Friday prayers led by the Regional Chief Imam Sheikh Abdul Salam. I would like to express my gratitude to God Almighty who has given me the strength to carry out the renovation of the mosque, as well as to all the parties who have given me help and assistance, especially the leaders of the mosque. May God bless us all.” Dr. Bawumia said.
During the ceremony, the mosque leader thanked the Veep for his selfless act while the crowd hailed him as a hero.
In May 2020, the Regional Chief Imam and Alhaji Opha asked the Vice President to help pay the cost of previous work done on the ground floor of the mosque by the Kumasi contractor.
The Vice President after the Jummah (Friday) prayer in November 2020 at the Mosque paid the fees and announced his decision to complete the rest of the work at the Mosque that is more than 50 years old.
Veep financed the renovation of the second and third floors, the tower, the penthouse, lighting, painting, and other works.
