Bawku’s situation is complex but can be resolved – Chief Minister appointed
The situation in Bawku in the Upper East region is complicated but can be resolved, said Minister-Designate for Chieftaincy Stephen Asamoah Boateng.
He told Komla Kluste on TV3 in an interview after the approval by the Parliamentary Appointments Committee on Monday, February 20 that “This is a very complicated situation but it can be resolved.”
He also said that the problem in Bawku is related to the maintenance of law and order.
Therefore, they are demanding the authorities to ensure that there is law and order.
He said, “First of all, the current situation is maintaining law and order, which is the government’s business, so the state authorities must maintain law and order and bring peace.
“There is a fundamental issue of authority and land issues and I said during the inspection that you have to jaw. Fortunately for me, I know some of them, most of them personally. I used to be in the local government so I know Nayiri, I know my Bawku area.
“This requires peace, we are a sovereign country, we cannot fight among ourselves, this is a difficult task, but I think we can do it. I asked many people, I also prayed for guidance and wisdom, that’s what I need, I need much wisdom.
Last week, the government condemned the new Bawku Naba enskinment in Nalerigu on Wednesday, February 15.
A statement issued by the Department of Information that Naa Asigri Azoka II is still Bawku Naba.
The King of Maprugu Traditional area Naa Bohugu Mahami I is reported to have enskinned Alhaji Seidu Abagre as the new chief for Bawku on Wednesday, February 15 at the Nayiri Palace in Nalerigu.
But the government in a statement condemned the act and ordered the security to arrest anyone who presents himself as such.
“The government condemns the development in Nalerigu today on February 15, 2023, regarding the deployment of the new Bawku Naba as illegal and a threat to National Security,” the government said.
“The Government further reaffirms that Naba Asigri Azoka I is Bawku Naba, who is gazetted and a member of the National and Upper East Regional Chief Council.
“Security agents have been directed to arrest and prosecute others claiming to be Bawku Nana,” he added.
