The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has condemned the alleged killing of its members by a group of supporters All Progressive Congress (APC).
The party called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali, to investigate the incident that led to the death of the member.
PREMIUM TIMES reported on Thursday how a man identified as Danlami Shata was killed on Wednesday following a clash between APC and PDP supporters in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The incident took place in Duguri, the hometown of the governor of the state, Bala Mohammed. APC gubernatorial candidate, Sadiq Abubakar and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, led the APC campaign in the town.
The PDP has denied that its supporters blocked the path of APC supporters, which allegedly led to the unrest.
The PDP spokesperson in the state, Yahya Zainabari, said the intervention of the Inspector General of Police would ensure that law and order is respected in the state during the campaign.
“We are calling on the IG and other security agencies to go in and investigate the matter because this is not the first time, there has been a shooting in Akuyam, where two of our supporters were killed when the APC Governorship candidate, Sadiq Abubakar was passing through the town.
“There were other shootings in Toro and Alkaleri during the APC campaign also happened on Wednesday in Duguri, a person was killed in his house by APC political thugs.


“How can an APC candidate be allowed to bring a group of hoodlums who attack, shoot, maim and kill innocent and law abiding citizens of Bauchi state? Is it because he is a retired Military officer? We are not in the barracks, he should respect the sanctity of human life and respect the citizens Bauchi”, Mr. Zainabari warned.
The PDP spokesperson further explained that they campaigned in all the 20 local governments in the state without injuring or killing anyone.
However, he said APC campaigns have always been characterized by violence, killings and disabilities.
He said before the APC campaign train entered Duguri, he called the town regent who is the elder brother of the governor and informed him of his mission to the town, saying the traditional ruler said even though he was not going. available, he will meet his representative who will receive a campaign tea at the palace.
“They went straight to the Palace and were received, they prayed there, gave speeches and missions to Duguri town, everything went peacefully, when one Mr. Yakubu Wowo led a group of thugs from house to house. house, causing mayhem, causing injury to innocent citizens.
“They started by destroying Governor Bala billboards, and posters, destroying motorcycles, and Keke. They entered the house of an innocent man and started beating him to death. So, does a retired military person want to win the election and manage the country?”, asked Mr. Zainabari.
Efforts to get APC’s response were unsuccessful in the evening.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mohammed has offered his condolences to the families of those killed in the riots.
Mr. Mohammed said it was an organized attack on innocent people in his home town.
“Today, in my hometown Duguri, in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state, I pay my sympathy and condolence to the families of the victims of the recent shooting during the APC gubernatorial campaign, which claimed lives and many were injured”, Mr. Bala said.
“I call on the people of the town to be careful and let the matter be peaceful. Adding that the town was deliberately attacked because his son is the Governor of the state.

“While expressing my condolences and sympathies to the family, I call on the people to exercise their franchise peacefully without engaging in activities that will sabotage the security of life and property.
“Anyone accused of being a victim, terrorism, intimidation or harming innocent people before, during” or after the upcoming elections will be dealt with firmly to prevent others, Mr. Mohammed warned.
