Plans are underway to set up a local recycling system and expand the recycling landscape in the South African label industry
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, February 24, 2023 -/African Media Agency(AMA)/- Avery Dennison Corporation (NYSE:AVY), a leader in global materials science and manufacturing, aims to develop AD Circular, a glassine liner recycling program that seeks to divert waste from landfills and supports the growing demand for recycled materials in South Africa
Research has shown that glassine liners (backing paper) for pressure-sensitive labels are recyclable waste with high-quality fibers. Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), a global policy approach that gives producers responsibility for the collection, treatment, and disposal of post-consumer waste, lists glassine liners as one of the paper and packaging materials that should be diverted from landfills.
Over the past two years, AD Circular, through a partnership with Interwaste, a South African waste management solutions provider, has successfully diverted approximately 100 tonnes of glassine liner waste from landfills in the country.
With increasing demand for more responsible waste management and in line with the national government’s approach, Avery Dennison plans to accelerate the AD Circular liner recycling program in South Africa.
