Attram De Visser wins maiden Democracy Youth Cup
Attram De Visser Soccer Academy emerged champions of the maiden Democracy Youth Cup after defeating JP FC 3-1 in an entertaining final at the La McDan AstroTurf Town Park on Thursday.
The academy capped an impressive tournament campaign with another dominant display to secure the title and walk away with the GHS10,000 cash prize in the competition aimed at promoting youth football development and civic education among young players.
Attram de Visser had earlier booked their place in the final after defeating Charity Stars 2-0 in the semi-finals. JP FC advanced after a strong 3-1 victory over Stari Third World in the other last four encounter.
The final attracted football enthusiasts, scouts, coaches, and invited guests who gathered to witness the climax of the competition, which forms part of activities under the Democracy Cup initiative.
Throughout the tournament, teams displayed exciting football, discipline, and promising young talent across the various group stage and knockout fixtures.
The Democracy Youth Cup was officially launched earlier this week by First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Bernard Ahiafor, who performed the ceremonial kick-off at the opening ceremony.
Clerk to Parliament Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror also addressed participants and highlighted the similarities between football and democracy, stressing teamwork, discipline, and unity.
Former Sunderland player Gary Bennett was present throughout the tournament alongside former Black Stars defender Yaw Acheampong and legendary Ghanaian coach J.E. Sarpong, all of whom monitored players closely as part of the scouting exercise attached to the competition.
The tournament will officially conclude on Friday morning with a special exhibition match involving a 22-man select side chosen by Bennett, Acheampong, and Coach Sarpong. The selected side will face the tournament runners-up, JP FC, at the La McDan AstroTurf Town Park at 9:00 AM.
