At People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State said it will go ahead with the local government campaign rally scheduled for Wednesday, despite “unprovoked attacks” on opposition politicians.
The Director General of the PDP Governorship Campaign Council in the state, Austin Edeze, said this at a press conference on Tuesday in Abakaliki.
He said the rally would begin in Onueke in Ezza South Local Government Area, despite security challenges in the state.
He urged party supporters to come out en masse for the rally.
“There is nothing that can stop the party from using the Nigerian Constitution and democratic norms and practices to achieve the desired victory based on the confidence of the Ebonyi people in the PDP.
“We are determined to free the country from slavery, arbitrariness and political rascality, and implement progressive governance,” Edeze added.
He warned PDP supporters in Ebonyi to shun all divisive and inflammatory comments that could become too heated as the campaign for the general election gathers momentum.
The DG expressed concern that by promoting division, “clannish and artificial differences” between administrative zones and communities have been increasing in the country.

Mr. Edeze challenged the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state to advertise their achievements instead of resorting to desperate tactics ahead of the general election.
He called on the media to remain neutral and continue to carry out their professional responsibilities to shape society.
“The PDP gubernatorial candidate, Dr Ifeanyichukwuma Odii symbolizes a valuable political capital with a deep philosophical and ideological endowment.
“He is, therefore, an important asset for the country; the entry to the race allows us to key to the political re-engineering of our generation of people and politics.

“His presence will increase the spirit of the people to demonstrate their acceptance of the PDP and their overwhelming confidence and trust in him,” the campaign DG added.
‘Barbaric attack’
Mr. Edeze condemned the attack on several opposition politicians, including Benard Odoh, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Sam Egwu and others.
He said the attack was barbaric and unhealthy for the country’s democratic journey.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the PDP has petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari, the Director General of State Security Services and Chief of Defense Staff, to intervene before the country “slides into anarchy”.
“This attack is unacceptable, completely reprehensible and unacceptable,” the party said in the petition.
