Atiku, who stated this during the PDP presidential campaign rally in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital on Saturday, said the port would help develop water transport.
“I am very happy for the people of Kogi State to show their support, show their love. Most of the challenges that have been presented by the previous speaker, one of them is the Ajaokuta problem. I want to confirm here that if you give your support and vote for a PDP government, the nightmare of Ajaokuta will be a thing of the past. I guarantee this and that is the promise I have made on behalf of PDP.
“I also want to promise you that your inland port problem is not only a Kogi problem, it is a Northern Nigeria problem, because through the development of the port in Kogi, we will also have access to maritime transport in this country, so it is not a Kogi issue, it is an issue for all of us in the north country.I promise to implement the program.
The Ajaokuta Steel Plant was established in 1979 but remains unfinished and nothing remains despite billions of naira being pumped in by successive governments.
The project has become a popular campaign talking point for Nigerian politicians who have failed to build the facility.
Atiku also promised not to delay the payment of civil servants in the country because his government will encourage the country to pay the salaries of its employees.
“From Obajana to Lokoja, thousands of young people, I give them jobs, if they don’t give them jobs, I promise to set aside ten. billions of US dollars to empower youth and women to lead comfortable lives,” he said.
Atiku also promised to fix the university system so that it does not go on strike.
“We are asking you, we are here not to lie to you, we are men and women of integrity. If you want the next state government to benefit you, vote for PDP in the presidential election, you will see that when we come to hold the governorship election, we will take over Kogi State and ensure that we deliver good governance,” he said. said.
