Atiku in Kebbi, vows to reopen all Nigeria’s land borders if elected

As part of the plan for the economic development of the country, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Atiku Abubakar has vowed to reopen all Nigerian land borders if elected president in the February general election.

Land borders in the country were closed by the Muhammadu Buhari government, with the president accusing neighboring Nigeria of allowing mass smuggling into Nigeria to destroy the country. At least four borders were reopened two years later, while others remained closed.

Atiku made the promise at the party’s presidential campaign in Birnin-Kebbi, the Kebbi state capital on Saturday.

The former vice president, who is a Nigerian Customs Service officer, said he has more knowledge on border issues than his rivals in the presidential contest.

According to him, the re-opening of the border will boost trade and investment between Nigeria and other neighboring countries.

“I promise to open the borders that have been closed. I know more about border issues than all the other presidential candidates.

“These restrictions will promote trade and investment between Nigeria and neighboring countries. Nothing should stop us from trading with our neighbours,” he said.

Atiku also promised to address security challenges in the country to promote agricultural activities.
