Atiku in Benue, promises to tackle insecurity, promote agriculture if elected

Presidential candidate from People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has promised to restore peace to Benue State if elected president in this month’s election.

Atiku also promised to improve agriculture for the development of the country and the country.

He spoke on Monday in Makurdi during the presidential campaign in Benue State.

The former Vice President said if elected president, he would unite the Fulani and the Tivs.

Benue and a larger part of the North-central, is the center of ongoing farmers and herdsmen clashes and other ethno-religious crises.

According to a statement from the PDP campaign council, Atiku promised to ensure that people are free to go to farms without fear of attack.

“The umbrella of the Tiv people all over the world, I promise, if you elect me as president, like I did in 2001 when I came to Benue and made the Fulanis sign a peace agreement with their Tivs brothers, I will come. and make sure that peace returns to Benue State.

“Benue State is the supplier of food to this country, today the farmers in Benue do not go to farm anymore because it is not safe. I will make sure that security returns to Benue State,” he said.

Atiku said he will tackle unemployment by giving $10 billion to empower women and youth.

“I also promise you that with the grace of God, the problem of youth and women unemployment will be a thing of the past, so in the policy document, I said that we will give 10 billion US dollars to empower young people and women with companies.

“I also assure you that the infrastructural deficit you are facing in this country in terms of your connectivity with other neighboring countries will be a thing of the past because we will ensure that we choose funding for the development of roads and railways. to ensure that our transport system works again .

Among his promises, Atiku promised to solve the ongoing strike action by university lecturers.

“I once again assure you that the closure of our university due to non-payment of salaries to staff members will be a thing of the past.

“I have a private university, and we have never gone on strike for a day, so if a private university can’t go on strike for a day, why should a public university? I promise ASUU will not go on strike, because we will pay them and fund the education sector adequately,” he said. .
