Today MPs are back in Westminster today and no doubt the big topic of conversation will be the latest poll which shows very little difference compared to before the holidays. The Tories are still in tough territory and if this is repeated at the general election, hundreds of CON MPs will lose their jobs.
If the hope was that by voting for Sunak he would support the winner of the election, then that hope is gone.
I think the problem is much bigger than the leadership and it just comes down to the fact that the Tories have been in government since 2010 and there is a desire for change.
In this context, Labour, with a credible alternative Prime Minister in Starmer looks good. In many polls today, he is better than Sunak when it comes to the best PM question.
Sunack wasn’t helped by the conditions that put him in the lead last fall. We all remember the busy days when the party went through three prime ministers in a month.
But everything can change and there is no room for complacency
