Ashanti Region: Fire destroys seven-bedroom apartment in Tafo
Residents including children were unhurt after fire gutted a seven-room residential apartment at Nkontwima in Tafo Municipality in the Ashanti Region.
The children and several adults who were in the house when the fire broke out at about 9 a.m. on February 18 attracted the attention of neighbors who came to help deal with the situation.
Firefighters were later called when the fire grew large and spread to other rooms in the apartment.
Narrate the incident to Citi NewsBremang Fire Commander, DO 3 Selase Prosper Avevor blamed the cause of the fire on the deep freezer “which contains most of the food and is connected to the extension board and the socket to which the extension board is connected has a fault. It is being worked on. It caused sparks and because of the large amount of material in a flammable room, the sparks started a fire and because there were no gables in the house, the fire quickly spread to other rooms in the house.

DO 3 Selase Avevor also pointed out that the fire could have caused a lot of damage because residents in the apartment tried to fight the inferno on their own until it was too late to call the Fire Department.
“He tried to put out the fire himself without attracting attention. If he had called the Fire Department earlier, we would have been here to stop the fire.
He advised the public to be careful in handling naked fires and electrical faults and warned that gadgets with high voltage should not be connected through extension boards in order to prevent the outbreak of fire.
