Ashaiman attack: Akufo-Addo’s silence means he is tacitly encouraging brutality – Toobu


Wa West Member of Parliament, Peter Lanchene Toobu, has said that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s silence on the military attack on Ashaiman means tacitly condoning the atrocities being committed against residents.

The President started the military attack on Tuesday morning, March 7, 2023, after the killing of a soldier, Trooper Sheriff Imoro, Saturday, March 4, 2023, is not silent about the incident.

Lanchene Toobu said the President who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ghana will destroy the country’s democracy if he actually supports the attack by the armed military.

The MPs said many of them wanted the Commander to act decisively and punish the officers including the Military High Command.

Contribute to the panel discussion at Citi TV/FM at Big problem, with Seloem Adonoo, MP Wa West stated, “I expect the President to act, he is the Commander of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and this is an operation given by the military high command. If the Commander in Chief thinks that the actions of the Military High Command have tarnished the image of the country and caused our democracy and these actions have embarrassed this country, I expect the President to act decisively to let the military know that this is a mistake”.

He emphasized, “but if he is silent, it means that he is secretly supporting what he is doing. And if that is the case, the democracy that we have established since Nana Addo took over in 2017, he has only shifted to retreat. That is exactly where we are going. What is we see it can be seen in the military regime. We expect that after these many years, police and military violence will decrease, after 30 years we will not see this.

The soldier, according to sources, hails from Taifa and was on his way to his home at Zongo-Laka in Ashaiman when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Imoro Sheriff who was found dead in a pool of blood near Amania Hotel in Ashaiman was buried on March 9.

Though he was carrying a laptop and other electronic gadgets, the attackers got rid of only his iPhone.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in a statement justified the brutality adding that the attack was not to avenge the death of the soldier but to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

GAF announced that the high command sanctioned it. The military during the swoop arrested 184 suspects, but all were later released by the military.
