The Ghana Police Service, after a week of continuous intelligence-led operations, has arrested six people on various dates and locations in Ashiaman and its environs for suspected involvement in the killing of Imoro Sherrif, a soldier.
On March 4, 2023, the Police received information that an adult male was found dead at Ashiaman Taifa in the Greater Accra Region.
A police team went to the spot and confirmed the incident.
Police immediately began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death. The officer sealed off the scene and called in a specialist Police Crime Squad team to process the scene for forensic analysis.
The Crime Scene team took several items, including a knife with blood stains and a backpack. In the backpack, the Police found 1 Samsung tablet, 1 Apple laptop, 1 military uniform with the name tag “Imoro”, 8 other clothes, as well as a Ghana card and a Health Insurance card with the name Imoro Sherrif.
Judging by the contents of the backpack, the police suspect that the victim may be a soldier, and in accordance with the Police’s standard operating procedure for dealing with institutionalized victims, the Military has been informed of the incident and some military personnel have come to identify the deceased. to the Police as Imoro Sheriff, soldier.
The body of the deceased was then taken to the hospital for preservation and autopsy.
As part of the investigation, intelligence operations were immediately launched in Ashiaman and other strategic locations to follow all relevant leads in the case.
On the same day, in line with Ghanaian tradition and as part of the investigation process, a team of police officers after identifying the residence of the parents of the deceased, visited them, commiserated with them and assured them of a thorough investigation in the matter .
During the visit, his parents informed the Police that the deceased was posted in Sunyani but came to Accra on a course.
Further investigation revealed that on March 3, 2023, the deceased had visited a female friend at Ashaiman Newtown at approximately 10:30 a.m. and left the place at midnight at approximately 01:30 a.m. on March 4, 2023.
After almost a week of intelligence-led operations, on March 9, 2023, the police arrested the suspects Safianu Musah alias Dayorgu and Ibrahim Abdul Rakib at their hideout in Ashaiman. Two other suspects, Samuel Tetteh alias Wiper and Abubakar Sadick alias Birdman were also arrested in hiding on March 10, 2023. Two additional suspects, Yussif Mohammed and Abdul Gafaru Abdul Karim were arrested on March 11 and 12, 2023.
Further investigation has established that the suspects Samuel Tetteh and Abubakar Sadick at about 1:45 on March 4, 2023 attacked the deceased in Taifa Ashiaman in an attempt to rob him of his phone and backpack. However, the deceased refused and struggled with the suspect. During the struggle, the suspect Samuel Tetteh pulled out a knife and stabbed the deceased in the arm, grabbed the phone and bolted leaving the deceased with the knife stuck in the arm.
A postmortem examination was conducted on the body of the deceased on March 8, 2023, after which the pathologist gave the verbal cause as exsanguination and laceration of the main vessels of the left arm consistent with a stab wound.
Investigations also revealed that the suspects Samuel Tetteh and Abubakar Sadick sold the phone stolen from the deceased to suspect Ibrahim Abdul Rakib who then sold it to suspect Safianu Musah. Suspect Safianu Musah is avoiding the whereabouts of the phone and claimed to have sold it to suspect Yussif Mohammed and later to suspect Abdul Gafaru Abdul Karim. Both suspects have been arrested and are helping the investigation to recover the phone.
On March 12, 2023, a police team led by the Tema Regional Police Commander visited the family of the deceased and briefed them on the investigation carried out so far.
We would like to commend all police officers at all levels of the Command, especially the crack police intelligence and investigation team as well as the Ashiaman District Police Command for their professionalism and meticulous dedication, working hard to solve this case.
We want to assure the public, especially the family of the deceased, that all the suspects have been arrested by the police and will appear in court on Monday, March 13, 2023 for justice.
