The Manhyia Palace has issued an official statement ignoring the US Asanteman Association and immediately cutting off all ties with the Association.
Manhyia Palace’s decision comes after it separated from the US Asanteman Association government following a United States court decision.
The Asanteman Association (AS) earlier called on the general public that the issue had been resolved and that it was related to Manhyia.
“It is true that the New York Asanteman Association went to court over a disputed local election issue and inadvertently dragged Manhyia’s name into the dispute. After realizing this mistake, the New York Asanteman Association has taken steps through mediation to apologize to Manhyia and restore normal relations with the Manhyia. The Association accepts and acknowledges the authority of the Manhyia in its affairs. All members of the Association shall be loyal to the Manhyia. The Asanteman Association of New York will not knowingly do anything that will tarnish the good image of the Asantehene or the Manhyia.”
But when further probed at the Manhyia Palace office by Private Secretary Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Lawrence Akwasi Prempeh stated that all previous statements still stand, so nothing has changed.
According to him, “The previous release signed by me clearly states that the above mentioned people who are said to be presiding over the enstoolment of this US based Chief and Queen are seriously fighting the court issue with the Asantehene (Otumfuo Osei Tutu II).
“Therefore, any activity scheduled or implemented is illegal. Not except the swearing-in (enstoolment) of the new Chief and Queen scheduled for January 7, 2023.”
The release emphatically warned the general public to shun all forms of business or involvement with persons registered under the pretense of Manhyia Palace or Otumfuo Osei Tutu.

I bring compliments from Manhyia Palace, and write to express the Palace’s appreciation to the New York Board of Selectmen (Dr. Koti Antwi Boateng, Dr. Kwame Anyane-Yeboah, Rev. Dr. Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Kwasi Abrcfa Busia, and Regina Bonsu) for the good work you have done in providing guidance to the Asanteman Association, USA in the past year.
Your efforts to unite the association to follow a clearly defined road map approved by the general membership have been widely appreciated.
Unfortunately, certain people in the group led by Charles Manu found the matter to be taken to Court after Oheneba Boachie-Adjei (Otumfuo Hiahene, who represented the Palace in this matter) intervened and ordered the group to unite and follow the Electoral Council. roadmap for new elections.
In response to the action of the Court and the decision of Judge Alison Tuitt on June 29, 2022 regarding the Asanteman Association of USA vs The Board of Electors, Amaniampong and Hiahene, I am directed by the Manhyia Palace to issue the following directive:
As the Court’s decision after the argument of the plaintiff Charles Manus that “it is inappropriate that the Asante King played a role in the controversy because the plaintiff’s organization is regulated by the Constitution and By-Laws required by the law of New York,” therefore estranged Manhyia from the Government of the Asanteman Association USA, according to the dictate The constitution itself, the Manhyia Palace, with this directive, formally disowned the US Asanteman Association and immediately severed all ties with the US Asanteman Association.
Therefore, all groups or associations of Asante citizens in the diaspora must apply and seek official recognition and approval from the Manhyia Palace by meeting certain requirements.
If you need clarification or additional information on this matter, you can contact us at +233 55 432 4070, or Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, Otumfuo Hiahene, at +233 24 338 3051. Thank you.
Thank you,
Lawrence Akwasi Prempeh Private Secretary to the President
