Canadian astronaut David Saint-Jacques, speaking with CBC News from Longueuil, Que., says he’s known Hansen for 18 years and calls him the “perfect guy” for the Artemis II mission.
“He represents so much of great Canadian values. He’s just a steadfast, reliable, strong, quiet force — exactly what they need in that capsule to go in the unknown on our behalf,” he said.
Asked what he would say to kids who are inspired by the launch and want to go into space one day, Saint-Jacques said it’s never too early to start developing the astronaut mentality. In particular, that means being trustworthy, he added.
“That really is at the core of their profession, that you’re going to be not perfect — everybody makes mistakes — but you’re trustworthy,” he said. “You’re going to fess up if you do make a mistake, and you’re going to always be part of the solution, and be respected as a trustworthy crew member.”
