Arsenal transfer news: Gunners bid £70m for Moises Caicedo but Brighton insist midfielder not for sale | Football News

Arsenal have made a second bid for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo worth £70m including add-ons.

Brighton’s attitude, however, remains unchanged and the midfielder is not for sale.

The Gunners had their initial £60m bid for Caicedo rejected by Brighton, which led to the Colombia international urging Brighton to let him leave and join the Premier League leaders in a statement on social media.

The Soccer Saturday team have their say on Moises Caicedo’s potential transfer to Arsenal and analyze his best moments in the Brighton shirt.

Caicedo, who told Brighton’s official website that he is solely focused on the club at the moment, was told not to train with the Seagulls until Tuesday’s transfer deadline following his Instagram post.

Leandro Trossard has swapped Brighton for Arsenal in the current window for £27m.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi insists Moises Caicedo is a ‘very good man’, but says it is a “mistake” for the midfielder to publicly express his desire to leave the club.

Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi wants Caicedo to stay at Brighton until the end of the season but says the club is “ready to move forward without him”.

“When you are 21 and you receive the request of a big team that plays in European competitions, I can understand,”

“Caicedo is a very good person and I can understand him,” De Zerbi said after Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round win over Liverpool.

“When you are 21 and you receive the request of a big team, they play in European competitions, I understand.”

Asked if he was surprised by Caicedo’s social media post, De Zerbi added: Yes, I am. I’m not sure it’s him if you know what I mean…”

Pressed on whether he thought Caicedo had been influenced by others, De Zerbi said: “Yes, that’s how it is.”

What does Caicedo’s Instagram post say?

Caicedo’s Instagram post read: “I am grateful to Mr. Bloom and Brighton for giving me the opportunity to come to the Premier League and I think I have done the best for them. I always play football with a smile and a heart.

“I am the youngest of 10 brothers from a poor upbringing in Santa Domingo in Ecuador. My dream has always been to be the most decorated player in the history of Ecuador.

“I am proud to have brought a record transfer fee to Brighton which will allow them to reinvest and help the club continue to succeed.

“The fans have taken me to their hearts and they will always be in my heart, so I hope to understand why I want to take this great opportunity.”

Caicedo told Brighton’s official website earlier this week that he was only focused on the club at the moment.

Trossard has swapped Brighton for Arsenal in the current window in a deal worth £27m, but Brighton are determined to keep Caicedo.
