The Mozambican wife who was arrested on Saturday by the Saps Special Task Force and other units has denied all allegations against her husband.
“My husband is not wrong and it is not fair to call him the king of kidnapping. Maybe people are jealous of his rude life,” said the suspect’s wife Esmael Malude Ramos Nangy.
He did not want his name published. Nangy made his first court appearance at the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court yesterday when extradition proceedings began.
Nangy was arrested by a team led by members of the Trilateral Planning Cell (TPC) and the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) at a luxury residence in Centurion on Saturday.
The team carried out an arrest warrant and extradition request by the Mozambican government, Saps spokeswoman Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said.
“On Saturday afternoon, a team comprising the Special Forces (STF), Crime Intelligence and Organized Crime arrested Nangy in Centurion,” said Mathe.
“The team seized a 9mm licensed firearm, 14 9mm cartridges, five mobile phones, bank cards for South African banks and SA and Mozambique SIM cards.”

Court proceedings
Nangy was handcuffed and wore an ankle chain when he entered the court.
He greeted his wife. Heavily armed policemen guarded the inside of the court.
Nangy wears a black hoodie and blue pants and her hair is tied in a ponytail.
The media is prohibited from taking pictures and videos. Her husband did not understand why her husband was called a kidnapper.
“He’s good to everybody and you’ll never hear anyone say anything bad about him,” he said.
“We are afraid that he could be extradited to Mozambique. I will not accept my husband going to Mozambique until he shows what he has done.
Her husband’s sudden arrest was of no use because he had been living in South Africa for years, he said.
“I’ve tried talking to Interpol and the Hawks and they just say they’re suspicious of my wife.”
Nangy’s lawyer, Calvin Maile, said his client did not know where the allegations came from because he was a respected businessman in Mozambique and in South Africa.
Suspension
Magistrate Karien Brits said there were still documents needed from Mozambique before extradition procedures could begin.
“Therefore, the state’s delay in obtaining the necessary documents will be sufficient.” The case was adjourned till January 16.
