The police Ondo State have arrested a 20-year-old apprentice who allegedly killed his master and dumped the body in a well.
The incident occurred in Imafon in Akure South Local Government Area of the country.
The suspect, Josiah Godwin, served the deceased, Savior Joseph, as an apprentice at the POP asbestos works in the area.
Sources said the suspect killed his master in a brawl over a telephone handset.
The master said he had destroyed the apprentice’s handset, leading to a fatal brawl.
A relative of the deceased, Odey Ogbaji, told reporters in Akure that the body of Mr. Joseph, aged 27, was found on Sunday in a well at the construction site where the two men went to work in Imafon.
He said he spoke to the deceased on the phone last week before leaving for work, but became worried when he couldn’t reach him the next day.
“I thought he had a flat battery, until on Saturday I was called by another sister who was followed by the deceased, who also told me that he could not reach him,” he said.
“Later, the apprentice was contacted about the whereabouts of his boss and he said that his boss woke him up during the night, smashed his phone on the floor and started beating him and then took him to bed.
“He said, the next day, he decided to leave the site. So we asked him, how did he get up in the morning without seeing his boss and leave the site? He replied that he thought his employer went to the toilet.
“When he checked the phone, he said it fell on the floor, there was no scratch.
“Furthermore, the suspect has switched off his phone and has not reported the matter to anyone.”
Mr Ogbaji said he found the body in the well afterwards.
A police spokesman in the country, Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident.
“We have started an investigation into the matter and the suspect is currently in custody,” he said.
He also said that the matter will be charged to court after the investigation is over.
